HOW I LIVE LARGE AS A SALARY EARNER
On the 21st of September, I moved into my new apartment at Surulere. I was going to keep it on a low, but I decided to have a housewarming party on the 24th. I invited a few colleagues, friends, and my boss to my housewarming party. I wasn't sure how many people would be in attendance because Nigerians enjoy bringing their friends to parties, Especially on Saturdays. This idea spurred me to hire a caterer to take care of the food for the day; I made provisions for 60 people after inviting only 40. Nigerians and parties are like 5&6, so I don't want to come and be explaining if they exceed 40.
D-Day finally came, and people trooped into my new apartment; some came with wine while others had extra space in their bellies, judging by how fast they consumed the small chops. Some unidentifiable faces were at my party, and at that moment, I blessed God that I made provision for a few more persons.
My boss eventually came, and I was delighted to see him. He is the best I have worked with so far, and he understands how Life can be tricky for us men; on top of that, I love hanging with him at the karaoke bar on Friday nights.
Anyway, my boss hugged me and shook my hand hard. While maintaining our signature handshake, he shouted, "Dapo, my man!!!". I observed that he was looking around the apartment, and I could tell he was proud of me because he always advised me to be better and do better.
After my boss helped himself to a plate of small chops, he signaled my attention, so we stepped out. I thought he would tell me how proud he was of me. Instead, he patted me on the back and kept saying Dapo, the big boy! I smiled, and he asked how I could afford an LG 55-INCH SMART SATELLITE TV, HISENSE 420L CHEST FREEZER, and all the other new nice appliances in the apartment. I shouted with both hands up, Chairman!! Na you be my Oga na, but he wasn't interested in my jokes because he was fully aware of my salary. He said, and I quote: " I earn more than you, and I cannot afford all these things.. abi you are doing Uber with this your jalopy nii?". He seemed surprised that I could afford the new items in my apartment. I just told him I use CDcare to own all my things in no time.
He brought out his phone and asked me to download the app and start an installment for the same TV I owned for him. I did it under 5 minutes, and we laughed and talked more about how I must carry my new Macbook laptop like an egg, especially in the office. Else, he might just run with it, LOL.
We shook hands again, and he finally told me the words I wanted to hear; he said, "I am proud of you. You deserve this" I looked him straight in the eye and told him thank you, boss.
